A message from our Youth Coordinator...
Every year, I'm blown away by the generosity of the people of St. Joan of Arc. Last week Life Teen had our annual clothing drive to support the ministries and missions of Harrisburg. We collected over 140 bags of clothes and that was awesome.
The weekend and the week that follows is always a rush, physically and emotionally. Parishioners don't get to see the teens work really hard sorting the clothes and bagging them up to get them ready for delivery. Teens don't get to see the fruit of that labor as I deliver the needed items to the Catholic Worker House, Silence of Mary, Downtown Daily Bread, Shalom House, and Shining Light.
A couple of these places, it's a drop and go with little to no interaction with anyone. With Downtown Daily Bread and Shining Light, I was able to sit and talk with 10 gentleman and 4 women who would be getting these much needed warm clothes and coats. They were eternally grateful. Being able to sit and talk with these men put a face on why we have this clothing drive every year. With that I thank you for your continued support of this yearly event. Without you this wouldn't be possible. I pray for God's peace and grace to all.
The Diocese of Harrisburg requires two years of religious education before reception of the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. If your child is not in a Catholic School, you need to register for REP, our Religious Education Program, as soon as possible. Our program covers grades K-8, so any new families should also consider prompt registration so that you receive all information on the coming year's program. Youth from our parish Life Teen group will be traveling to Mishawaka, Indiana with Catholic Heart Work Camp to assist those in need from June 10-16th. A few of our parish youth have not been able to fundraise the full amount needed to cover the cost of their Summer Mission Trip. This is a great opportunity to help a teenager make a difference while offering a teen the unique experience of serving and growing alongside their peers.
If you would like to make a contribution towards sponsoring one of these teens, you can donate online, send a check to the parish office marked "Mission Trip" or contact John Triscik. All donations are greatly appreciated and 100% tax deductible.
Pictures and a summary of the Mission Trip will be shared once the group returns in July. We are excitedly awaiting to see all they will accomplish this year! As always, your prayers are also much appreciated!

Since 1974, National Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. It starts the last Sunday in January and runs all week, which is January 29th - February 4th, 2017. The theme for the National Catholic Schools Week 2017 is “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.” Schools typically observe the annual celebration week with Masses, open houses and other activities for students, families, parishioners and
community members. Through these events, schools focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to our church, our communities and our nation.

Supporting Our Catholic Schools
Are you a CPA or Tax Professional?
The St. Joan of Arc School is in need of your assistance to help us educate local businesses about the state's Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC). This program provides generous business tax credits in return for tuition scholarships at St. Joan of Arc School. Please volunteer to help tomorrow's youth by contacting Jason Pennypacker (email). Our students thank you!
Do you own a business or know someone who does?
Instead of handing over your business taxes to the state wouldn't you rather exchange the tax burden today into an investment in tomorrow's youth right here in Hershey? If making a difference appeals to you then you need to learn about the state's Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC). This program provides generous business tax credits (up to 100% credit) in return for tuition scholarships for eligible students at St. Joan of Arc School. Please email Jason Pennypacker to learn more about the program and stop throwing your tax dollars away. Our children thank you!
