A message from Father Rothan:
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Why did the shepherds come to see Jesus? Think about this…set up the scene. The sky is dark, and here are these shepherds out in the middle of nowhere. They’re bedding down for the night and one of them is keeping the watch. Suddenly a multitude of heavenly host fills the sky, and ring out “Hosannas in the highest,” you can imagine the sight…imagine the fright. They give them a prophecy and direction and then they depart. Now some might stand there and say, “Wow,” while others were snapping pictures with their i-phones the whole time, and will never recall actually seeing the angels. But some…will have listened to what the angels said, and to see angels would not be enough…they wanted to see the Creator of the angels.
But they had to be looking for something more, or they would have stayed put. Many people will say, “Before I die, I wanna see the world.” These shepherds had only experienced a corner of the desert for most of their lives, and yet, they wanted to see the Maker of the world.
