“You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.” – Matthew 5:14-16

As Young Adults, we are a gift to the Church!
“You have so many gifts to offer the Church: you faith, your desire to serve, your spiritual hunger, your vitality, your optimism and idealism, your talents and skills. We can all learn from you, so we ask you to expand your leadership role in witnessing to the Gospel on campus. . . . We look forward to working more closely with you to make the Church ever more effective in announcing the reign of God.” – from a Letter to College Students from the U. S. Catholic Bishops

The Call to Holiness
As “sons and daughters of the light,” Christ calls us to “walk in the light.” This is our call to holiness. There are so many misconceptions about what it means to be holy, so this might seem like an unrealistic or even daunting task. But, God doesn’t ask of us anything that He cannot help us achieve. For us Catholic Christians, the path to holiness is pathed by our regular celebration of the sacraments, a lively prayer life, reflection on the Word of God, and a life of charity lived out for God and others.

The Call to Community
In a world which challenges the value of community in favor of the exaggerated exaltation of individualism, our Christian faith reminds us that we are meant to be in communion with God and with each other: that’s what makes us human and that’s what makes us Christian. None of us can come to God alone, that happens in communion with other believers in the Church. And, none of us is expected to navigate through the ups and downs of daily Christian living by ourselves. We need each other and so we seek out the company of other Catholic Christians to find support, encouragement, and, sometimes, the little push we need to be truly faithful.

The Call to Service
We don’t live in a closed-off community. Christ calls us to live out our faith in active service directed toward others. Faith animates us and charity compels us to go forth into the world around us and reach out to those in need. Whether it is in our local community or for the sake of someone halfway around the world, we are called to build up God’s kingdom here on earth through works of charity, social justice, and Christian service.
