Over the past eighteen months since I have been your pastor, I have received more anonymous letters than I have in the entirety of my priesthood. This has really surprised me since this is such a parish of professional people. These letters have run the gamut from: complaints about me and my decisions as pastor (used to that); complaints about other parishioners and when and how I am going to correct them; to what I consider to be very un-Christian rants that are just mean-spirited and, frankly, in one case, racist and bigoted. Every once in a while I receive an anonymous letter that makes a good point. But how exactly am I to address these questions and
complaints? If I am that difficult to talk to, I apologize. If these are real concerns, then please sign your name and set up a meeting to discuss them with me. Maybe I can help; maybe I can’t. But there is no way anything can be resolved if problems are cloaked in anonymity. Thanks for listening. I promise you I will listen to you. Father Al UPDATE: We have experienced an overwhelming response to the 6 week series we will be hosting beginning in February “Catholicism: The Pivotal Players”! Due to the number of registrations received, we had added a Monday afternoon session. You may still register for this session if you would like to be added to the waiting list. There is still space available in the Tuesday evening sessions, however space is limited.
Due to overwhelming interest in this series we hope to run the program again in the near future. This Tuesday we will go to the diocese to meet with the College of Consultors. The College of Consultors is an advisory committee to the bishop mandated by the Code of Canon Law. Its main person is twofold: to elect an administrator at the death of the bishop AND to advise the bishop whenever there is a large expenditure within the diocese such as the building of new churches, parish centers, and renovations. I am one of the consultors on the college but it is as a petitioner that I go on Tuesday.
Our plans to renovate the old convent have been approved by the Diocesan Building Committee and after meeting with the Chief Financial Officer of the diocese this past week, we are in a sound financial position to move forward. At this final meeting the Bishop and priests of the College of Consultors will ask us questions before we have the final approval to start the renovation. If all is in order, we just need the approval of the township to start, hopefully soon. I will give you an update on the costs, plans and timeline after the meeting on Tuesday. Lots of good things happening. More info to come! Father Al For more information about this presentation, click here
