The "lady" in ladybug refers to the Virgin Mary.
Legend has it that crops in Europe during the Middle Ages were plagued by pests, so the farmers began praying to the Blessed Lady, the Virgin Mary. Soon, the farmers started seeing ladybugs in their fields, and the crops were miraculously saved from the pests. They associated their good fortune with the black and red beetles, and so began calling them lady beetles. In Germany, these insects go by the name Marienkafer, which means Mary beetles. The 7-spotted lady beetle is believed to be the first named for the Virgin Mary; the red color represents her cloak, and the black spots represent her sorrows. When you see a lady bug, please don't kill them! Say a Hail Mary and give a prayer for another soul. You can release them back out in the yard, they will find a place to hibernate!

Mary. I.

I started praying the rosary everyday a few years ago. I was going through a very traumatic loss. I started praying and praying constantly. I would pray no matter how bad i felt. I remember saying to one of my neighbors that something they were wearing reminded me of a lady bug and that i hadn't seen a lady bug in years. The next day i went outside and a lady bug landed on me. The same thing happened the day after. I thought it was odd being as that i had just said how i never see them anymore. After that, i noticed whenever i was talking or mentioning Our Blessed Mother to someone a lady bug would appear and land on either the person i was talking to or on me. Even people who i knew would call me and say hey guess what i saw today?? I never knew the connection between the lady bug and the Blessed Mother until i read an article online. I believe in some way it was her telling me that she is around and she hears all who pray to her. Everytime i see one i say a hail mary for someone in need. She has helped me in so many ways and she loves us as a true mother. I like many have strayed from my catholic faith and i needed help. She has helped me in my journey. I am leaving this comment so that if anyone reading this is ever in need and needs help or guidance. Please say a rosary and give the Lord a chance to be in your life and help you. Our lady brings us closer to Jesus. Especially for those who do not understand. It was not easy for me to convert, but all i knew is one thing. Things needed to change in my life. With God all things are possible!!! Never give up!! God Bless
