Virginia Walker (1929-2026)

Virginia K. Walker, 96, of Lower Paxton Township, formerly of Derry Township, passed away on April 21, 2026, at Carolyn’s Hospice Residence.

She was born on December 14, 1929, in Schuylkill Haven, daughter of the late Joseph and Marion (Heebner) Kremer.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Walker, Sr.; son, Joseph Walker, Jr.; grandson, Joseph Walker, III; siblings, Sylvia Buehler, Jean Deibler, Peggy Ann Cresswell, and Joseph Kremer.

Virginia was a graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School in 1947.  She devoted her life to her family as a homemaker.  Her recipe for a good life is to "Be yourself and always tell the truth!"  She enjoyed music, playing the piano, movies, reading and baking.  She also loved flowers and was a member of the Palmyra Garden Club.  She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Church.

Virginia is survived by; daughter, Jane Greene; sister, Barbara Scott; granddaughter, Ashley Greene-Rodriguez; and great-grandchildren, Tea Dzicic, Landon and Judah Rodriguez.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 28th at 11AM in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Ave., Hershey.  The family will begin receiving guests at 10:30AM.  Interment will follow in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Central PA 1320 Linglestown Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17110.

Elizabeth Dougherty (1932-2026)

Elizabeth L. “Betty” Dougherty, age 94, is with the Lord now. She passed in her sleep on April 4, 2026, at her home in Elizabethtown, where she resided with her daughter and son-in-law. Born January 19, 1932, in Pittsburgh, she was the only child of the late Charles and Louise (Colizza) Painter.  

Betty married right out of high school.  She and her husband, James had 5 children.  Betty was one of the first woman to be an Allstate Insurance agent. Later, while in her 40’s, she cared for her father-in-law for 2 years.  She so enjoyed being his caregiver that she decided to go to nursing school. Betty was a dedicated and very compassionate nurse for 35 years in both Florida and Pennsylvania, working as a nurse into her 70’s, until her husband became ill.

Betty was the President of the Legion of Mary at St. Joan of Arc Parish in Hershey.  She loved visiting the sick and elderly. She was a devoted prayer warrior. She was also a member of St. Peter’s church in Elizabethtown.  Betty loved sewing, cooking, horses, reading and playing word games. She had phenomenal vocabulary and math skills. She also had a great sense of humor and very quick wit.

She is preceded in death by her husband James A. Dougherty, three sons: James A. Jr, Jeffrey A, and John A., and two grandsons.

She is survived by her daughters, Janet Dougherty, of Colorado, and Jill Yost, and her husband, Joseph, of Elizabethtown.  As well as 10 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 11th at 11AM in the St. Joan of Arc Church. 359 W. Areba Ave., Hershey.  The family will begin receiving guests at 10AM.  Interment will take place in the Hershey Cemetery.

Christine Zapcic (1974-2026)

Christine Marie Zapcic, 51, of Harrisburg, passed away at home on March 2, 2026. Born in Harrisburg on June 1, 1974, she was the daughter of Thomas Zapcic, Sr. and Nancy (Harman) Zapcic.
Christine loved art of all forms- especially music and photography. She was a loving daughter, sister, and aunt who will be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents, Christine is survived by her siblings Thomas Zapcic, Jr., Michelle Christman, and Michael Zapcic; and her niece Aaryn Christman.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 23, 2026 at St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, 359 W Areba Ave, Hershey, PA 17033, with Deacon Paul Koester officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Steelton Community Cats at www.steeltoncats.org
