Daniel Joseph Carroll, 56, of Norfolk, VA, passed away on October 17, 2025.
Born in 1969 in Fayetteville, NC, Daniel was the son of Daniel F. Carroll and Jane Carroll. He was raised in Harrisburg, PA, and attended Bishop McDevitt High School before going on to graduate from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. Dan also earned his Masters degree from Georgetown University. Dan worked at the Harrisburg Patriot News and the PA Dental Association through high school and after college, becoming a fixture in downtown Harrisburg and creating friendships that lasted through his final days. He served with honor in the U.S. Army National Guard, at Ft. Indiantown Gap and armories around Southeastern PA. The military then became a full-time career where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before retiring in 2020. Daniel is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Vasko, and her son, Nando Orfanelli of York, PA. He is also survived by his parents, Jane Carroll, of Hershey, PA and Daniel F. Carroll and his wife, Gail Carroll of Murrell’s Inlet, SC. He is also survived by his sister, Theresa (Carroll) Philipp, her husband, Stephen Philipp, of Limerick, PA, niece, Katelyn, and nephew, Zach. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Pat Daly of Harrisburg, PA and niece, Emily Kelly of Harrisburg, PA and nephew, Kyle Kelly of Norfolk, VA. Daniel treasured the brotherhood he found as a member of Zeta Beta Tau at Duquesne University and maintained close ties with many of his fraternity brothers throughout his life. Dan will be remembered for the love he showed to family, friends, and his dog Manchego. He brought fun and happiness to all around him and his legacy of loyalty, service, and integrity will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. A memorial mass will be held by the family at 11:00 am on October 25, 2025, at St. Joan of Arc Church in Hershey PA.
