James Joseph McInerney, 87, of Hershey, formerly of Setauket, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a brief illness on November 20, 2024.
He was born June 12, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late William and Bridget (McDaid) McInerney. Jim received his Bachelor of Business Administration from St. John’s University, Queens, New York in 1959. After initial training in the U.S. Army, Jim served in the New York National Guard. After his active-duty training Jim pursued a career as a self-employed proprietor of a service station on Long Island and served as an elected member of the Three Village School District Board of Education for three terms. Always active in his local Catholic Church, Jim was a vigorous and vocal leader in the Pro-Life movement throughout his life. His recent memberships include St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Hershey, and the Knights of Columbus. Jim’s life was defined by his Catholic faith, which led to his devotion to his beautiful family. Jim is survived by his wife, Mary (Alexander) McInerney; sons, James (Jane) McInerney, William (Blanca) McInerney, Joseph (Ellen) McInerney, John (Joanne) McInerney; daughters Maureen (Alok) Bose, Regina (Kevin) Crawford; siblings, Jo-Anne Sullivan and Michael McInerney; grandsons, James Joseph II, Thomas, Daniel (Jessica), Patrick, Liam, Aidan, Finn, John “Jack” and Mark McInerney, Deven Bose and Owen Crawford; granddaughters, Rebecca, Alexandra, Margaret, Brooke and Hannah McInerney, Priya, Maya and Neela Bose and Lucy Crawford; great grandson, Lucas McInerney, as well as dozens of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandson, Kevin Crawford III and brother, William McInerney. A visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 5th at the Hoover Funeral Home, 88 Lucy Ave., Hershey, from 6-8PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Dec. 6th at 11AM in the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Ave., Hershey. Graveside interment will be in the St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York on Saturday, Dec. 7th at 11AM. The McInerney Family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers a gift be made in loving memory of James J.
