Kathryn "Kass" Memmi (1928-2026)

Kathryn G. Memmi, 97, of   Londonderry Village Palmyra, a former long-time resident of Hershey, passed away on January 13, 2026.


She was born April 10, 1928 in Lebanon, daughter of the late John and Helen (Mauer) Gilbert.  She graduated from Fredericksburg High School.  


Kathryn was a renowned cook and worked for over 30 years years with her late husband, August Memmi, supervising packaging and sales at the family's G. Memmi and Sons Bakery of Hershey.  She was also very active with St. Joan of Arc Church in Hershey, where she served as a Life Member and former President of the Council of Catholic Women, as well as a former President of the Hershey-Lebanon Deanery and Diocesan CCWs. She was also instrumental in the establishment of St. Joan of Arc’s Heart of the Parish building and its related fund. In her youth, Kathryn volunteered as an airplane spotter with Civil Air Patrol at Fort Indiantown Gap and worked as an operator of the newspaper store at Hotel Hershey, where she met August to whom she was married for 50 plus years. She was an elected Republican Committee Woman of the Third Precinct in Derry Township for nearly 40 years and was a life-long voter, who did not miss voting in either municipal or general election for 75 consecutive years


Kathryn is survived by her children, August T. “Skip” Memmi, Jr. (Diane), Donna Memmi Malpezzi (Daniel), and John Memmi (Molly); grandchildren, Kathryn, Sarah (Kyle), Sean and Ian (Lauren); and great-granddaughters McKenna and Reagan.


She was preceded in death by her husband, August T Memmi, Sr., and siblings, Vivian Shaud, John Gilbert, Lt. Col. Eugene Gilbert and Patricia Smith


Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 16, 2026 at 11AM in the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.  The family will begin receiving guests at 10AM.  Interment will follow in the Hershey Cemetery.
