Summary: When we really understand our Catholic heritage, beliefs, and practices, then the Mass and sacraments become so much more powerful in our lives. How can we understand and appreciate our Catholic faith, the sacraments, and what it means to be Catholic in today's world? How can we grow in our faith, bringing a fresh and enthusiastic participation in word and song at Sunday Mass?

Mission: The mission of this commission is to encourage the great majority of St. Joan of Arc parishioners to participate more enthusiastically at Sunday Mass: praying, singing, growing in faith and welcoming all.

Future Goals: In the future we hope to include youth in the Liturgy & Worship Commission and work with John Triscik to achieve this goal; hold a commentary Mass at the beginning of Advent; composing a series of articles to appear in the bulletin to provide a better understanding of the music ministry and provide a mechanism for the parishioners to provide on the music; continue to hold retreats for various ministries; pre-schedule the family whose Mass is being celebrated to take up the gifts at Preparation time.

2013 Achievements

This commission is responsible for developing the Commentary Mass December 3, 2011; Parish 40 Hours led by Father Neil Sullivan preaching about the New Roman Missal Mass prayers and responses (2011) and 40 Hours led by Pastor, Rev. Philip Burger (2012); articles for the bulletin and website on the parts of the Mass, bulletin articles concerning the implementation of the Roman Missal Mass prayers and responses; workshops held by Father Rothan and Father Wayne for the various ministries; Homilies appearing on YouTube.
