The Diocese of Harrisburg requires 2 years of religious instruction to prepare for the sacraments of First Holy Communion & Confirmation, (typically grades 1st-2nd and 7th-8th).
The Religious Education Program (REP)
The Religious Education Program of St. Joan of Arc intends to work in partnership with parents in order to assist them in living their vocations as educators of their children. This program should merely complement, not replace, the catechesis children receive in the home. The Religious Education Program assists parents in their God-given role as educators of the faith.
The goals of the Religious Education Program are to support and assist the parents as the primary religious educators of their children. The home is the domestic Church and the place where a child first experiences the Catholic faith. You teach primarily by the example you set. It is extremely crucial for children to experience the love of God in their homes.
Parents whose children do not attend Catholic schools are strongly encouraged to enroll their children in REP. Instructions are necessary for public school children to receive the sacraments of Penance and Reconciliation, Holy Eucharist, and Confirmation. In the Diocese of Harrisburg, preparation for these sacraments is a two-year process. Students preparing for these sacraments must attend either REP classes or Catholic school. Home School is not an option for sacramental preparation of students attending a public school.
We strive to give your children a base of knowledge about their faith on which they can build for the rest of their lives. We also strive to teach them the value of being life-long learners about the Catholic religion so they will be continue to explore this faith throughout their lives.
