Frederick Raymond Sontheimer, Jr, 75, of Hummelstown, PA, passed away on March 9, 2022 in the Hershey Medical Center surrounded by his family. Fred was born on July 1, 1946 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of Frederick and Geraldine (Brew) Sontheimer who have preceded him in death.
He was a 1964 graduate of Bishop Canevin High School. After graduation, he attended Point Park College before enlisting in the US Navy where he proudly served six years in the submarine service aboard the fleet ballistic missile submarine USS Ethan Allen (SSBN 608). He continued that commitment as an active member of the US Submarine Veterans (USSVI) Keystone Base. He retired from Edwin L. Heim Co. as Vice President of the Electric Motor and Controls Division after 30 years of employment. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and traveling. Above all, he was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a good friend and neighbor. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda (Hirschfield), daughter Meghan (Sontheimer) Khanna, son Jason (Victoria), his grandchildren Dillon Frederick Khanna, Casey Francis Khanna, Charlotte Grace Khanna, Isabelle Sydney Sontheimer, Liam Frederick Sontheimer, and Samuel Finn Khanna, his sisters Barbara Sciarrino (Joseph), Geraldine Jensen (Christopher), Celeste O' Conner (Robert), his brother George Sontheimer and his nephews Jeffrey Sciarrino (Rhea) and James Kostka, Jr (Jocee). Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at the Hoover Funeral Home located at 88 Lucy Avenue in Hershey, PA. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 21, 2022 at 11:00 AM in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church at 359 West Areba Avenue in Hershey PA. Interment with military honors will be on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of the Hershey Medical Center, especially the nurses, who compassionately cared for Fred and his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church Heart of the Parish Fund.

Mary Beth Marschik, 64, of Hummelstown, passed away Monday, February 14, 2022, at her residence.
Born in Pittsburgh, on June 5, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Flora Tiberio Marschik. Mary Beth retired from the Pennsylvania Judicial Center where she worked for the Judicial Security Administration. She was also former Adjunct Professor at Central Penn College in the Division of Law & Science. Mary Beth was a 1975 graduate of Franklin Regional Senior High School; graduated from Grove City College; and earned her Master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Strong in her faith, Mary Beth was a member of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, Hershey. She loved history, especially Gettysburg, and enjoyed traveling. Flamboyant and bigger than life, Mary Beth had a heart of gold and was loved by everyone who knew her. Mary Beth is survived by her brother, John L. Marschik of Murrysville. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 11 AM in St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Avenue, Hershey. Visitation will be in the church Saturday from 10 AM until time of the service. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at 11 AM in the Good Shepherd Cemetery, 733 Patton Street, Monroeville. Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements. Madeleine Pellegrini Thomas passed away peacefully at 80 years old at home surrounded by the love of her husband G. Terry Thomas.
Madeleine is survived by her husband, siblings, her four children, Mark Thomas, Gary Thomas, Brian Thomas, Lynn Thomas-Brooks, and five grandchildren. Madeleine was raised by nuns in an Italian, Catholic home called Dante. Madeleine worked for the Navy off and on for 20 years. Her biggest passion was being a “stay-at-home-mom.” Madeleine was an exceptional wife and mother. She cared deeply for her family and also helping the underprivileged and children. She did this not out of obligation, rather because this is who she was. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to sponsor a Catholic education for a student at Saint Joan of Arc School in Hershey to continue Madeleine’s legacy. Bernard G. Ganse, 104 of the Lebanon Valley Home in Annville and formerly of Hershey, passed away on February 28, 2022
He was born July 31, 1917, in Lancaster, the son of the late John and Christina (Kirchner) Ganse. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen E. (Houser) Ganse and a daughter,Jacqueline Ganse Prickett. Bernie was a graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School and was a WWII Army Veteran and D-Day Survivor. He retired as Postmaster from the Hershey Post Office and the mailroom at Hershey Chocolate Co. Memberships include St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Hershey, Charter and Life Member of the Hershey Kiwanis Club, former Cub Scout Leader Troop #108 and Past Chairman of the Sr.Citizen Council of Derry Township. Surviving are his children, Lawrence Ganse of West End, NC, Terrence Ganse of Pinehurst, NC, Betty Jo Hostetter of West End, NC, Donna Finicle of Palmyra, Thomas Ganse of Holderness, NH, 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Wednesday, March 9th in the St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church in Hershey. Visitation will begin at 10:00am in the Church. Interment with military honors will be in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Main St, Annville, PA 17003 Cpl. (Ret.) Francis N. O'Rourke, 94, of Palmyra, passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at the WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon. He was born Sunday, May 22, 1927 in Archbald to the late Francis A. and Anna (Burg) O'Rourke. He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly A. (Richards) O'Rourke.
Francis was a proud Army Veteran serving in Japan during WWII. He served as a PA State Trooper, enlisted May of 1951 and for most of his 35 year career, he was assigned to the PA State Police Academy, Bureau of Training and Education as an equestrian instructor. He was also a member of the Mounted Color Guard and participated in thousands of parades and ceremonies throughout the Commonwealth and several other states. He won numerous awards in horse competitions. He also played an active role in the PA State Police Rodeo and participated in the opening ceremonies for the Farm Show for 34 straight years. He was a faithful member of the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Hershey and was also a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. In addition to his wife he is survived by his children: Diane O'Rourke-Bankus and husband Brent, Francis J. O'Rourke and wife Sally, Maureen Irvin and husband David, Patrick M. O'Rourke and wife Lori, and Eileen O'Rourke; grandchildren, Maura Bankus, Michael O'Rourke and wife Sheila, Danny O'Rourke and wife Tara, Katie Heberling and husband Jon, Kelly Irvin, Brian Irvin and wife Katie, Patrick M. O'Rourke, Jr., and wife Ashley, Keeghan P. O'Rourke, and Briana Long; great grandchildren, Aidan, Maeve, Caleigh, Harper, and Reese O'Rourke, Spencer Heberling, McKenna Irvin, and Reaghan and Remington O'Rourke. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 11 AM at the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 W. Areba Ave., Hershey, PA 17033 with Rev. Joshua Weaver officiating. A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 from 5 PM until 7 PM at the Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, PA 17078. Burial will follow the mass on Thursday at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA with full military honors. |
