ilda Teresa D'Eramo Villa, a seamstress who took great pride and comfort in her family, died Sept. 26, 2023, at her home in Hershey. She was 95.
She was born September 24, 1928, in Hershey to Mauro and Adelina D'Eramo, who had immigrated from Italy. She graduated from Hershey High School in 1946, then worked as a clerk-typist for the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture before marrying Peter Steven Villa of Lebanon on Sept. 10, 1949. He died in 2008. Mrs. Villa loved to sew. She sewed many of the clothes for her four daughters, including a wedding gown and numerous prom dresses. She delighted in creating Halloween costumes for her children and grandchildren and made the bedspreads and draperies for her home and for friends and family. In the 1970s, she started her own business, Gilda's Draperies, which expanded to include several part-time workers and her husband, who installed custom blinds. Mrs. Villa was also an active volunteer, serving as scout leader for Cub Scouts, Brownies and Girl Scouts. She was also a 4-H leader for 10 years. A lifelong member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, she put her sewing talent to work for the parish, making altar cloths, and sewing habits for the nuns. She also helped with other church committees over the years. Mrs. Villa enjoyed playing bridge for many years with her friends and loved to swim laps at the Hershey Community Center. She and her husband welcomed a child from the Fresh Air Fund into their family and maintained that special relationship for 50 years. She is survived by her five children: Teresa Cook of Baltimore; Michael of Bethesda, Md.; Joan Brandt of Hummelstown, Marianne Gerbert of Dillsburg, and Julie Black of Richmond, Va.; eight grandchildren, four great granddaughters and her Fresh Air child, Aida Camacho. She was preceded in death by sisters Florence Tomaino and Rose Resanovich and twin sister Erma Bender Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Hershey. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joan of Arc School, 1525 Sand Hill Road, Hummelstown PA, 17036, or the Fresh Air Fund, https://donate.freshair.org/donatenow/.
