Alexander L. Camasta, 83, of Hummelstown, passed away after a long and courageous battle on December 28, 2013 in the M.S. Hershey Medical Center with his loving family by his side.
He was born July 19, 1930 in Elizabeth, NJ, son of Dominic and Grace (Pestrichella) Camasta. Alex had a life-long career serving our country, having served in the Air National Guard, Merchant Marines, and the Army during the Korean War. After marrying and moving to Central PA, he worked at Olmstead Air Force Base and later at the Mechanicsburg Navy Ships Parts Control Center as a Contracts Negotiator until retiring in 1985. Combined, he had more than 35 years of federal service. He and his wife were owners of Camasta's Drive In restaurant in Hummelstown from 1970 - 1980. Memberships include St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, the Hummelstown Optimist Club, and the New Jersey Club of Timber Pines in Spring Hill, FL. Above all, he was a devoted husband and intimately involved with his children's and grandchildren's lives and will be missed by all for his stories, advice, wit, and laughter. Alex is survived by his caring wife of 60 years, Tina (D'Ambrosio) Camasta; two daughters, Adrianne Kihm (Charles) of Middletown and Karen Willey (David) of Hummelstown; four sons, Mark, Esq., of Lyons, IL; Chris (Michele Knisely) and Keith (Teri Miller) both of Hummelstown; and Dr. Craig Camasta (Dr. Andrea Cass Camasta), of Marietta, GA; Grandchildren, Joseph Kihm (Chrissy) of Harrisburg; Dr. Carl Kihm of Atlanta, GA; Lindsey Stuckey (Robert), Anthony Camasta, Alexis and Genna Willey, all of Hummelstown; Michael and Marinna Camasta of Lyons, IL; and Dominic and Luca Camasta of Marietta, GA; and Great Grandchildren, Nathan and Kyle Stuckey of Hummelstown. He is also survived by two sisters: Mary Lima of Ocala, FL and Ann Mullen of Cranford, NJ, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Joseph, and a daughter in-law, Ronnette Belser Camasta. Recitation of the rosary will be on Thursday, January 2, 2014, at 5:30 pm followed by a viewing from 6 - 8 pm, and also on Friday from 10-11 am in the Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., of Hershey. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 11:30 am in St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Ave., Hershey. Interment with military honors will be in the Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Heart of the Parish Fund, c/o St. Joan of Arc Church, 359 W. Areba Ave. Hershey, PA 17033. Hershey Restaurateur and Hotelier Joseph G. Spinner, former chef/owner of Spinner's Inn & Restaurant died Christmas Day, he was 86.
The landmark Chocolate Avenue business in Hershey included both an inn and restaurant. The restaurant was originally known as Spinner's Parisian when opened by Joe's father in 1947. Joe, along with his wife Pat, operated Spinner's for 50 years until they retired in 1997. Enlisting in the Army after graduation from Hershey High School in 1944, Joe attained the rank of Sergeant in the Ninth Traffic Regiment, Third Army and was an observer to the Nuremberg Trials, most notable for the prosecution of prominent members of the political, military, and economic leadership of Nazi Germany. As a teenager, Joe worked as bellman and was once a caddie for Ben Hogan at the Hotel Hershey. Joe lived most of his life in Hershey, moving from Montclair, NJ with his family at the age of 3 in 1930. Known as someone who was never without a joke to tell, Joe was well known in the community and belonged to numerous organizations, including: SKOL International, PA Restaurant Association, Knights of Columbus (4th Degree), Hershey Historical Society and St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church. Joe was a skilled amateur cartoonist, and often produced cartoons for publication in his neighborhood association paper. Additionally, Joe enjoyed travel, coin and stamp collecting, reading and sports. Joe was predeceased by his father, William Spinner and his mother Isabella Smyth Spinner. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Pat Spinner and their 5 children, Patrice (Philip) Young of Cornwall; Ann Spinner of Hershey; William (Catherine) Spinner of Larchmont, NY; Kathleen (Michael) Greenblatt of Lancaster; and Cynthia (Mark) Rice of Palmyra. Although known simply as Joe to most who knew him, as a devoted family man and grandfather, Joe was also affectionately known as Papa Joe, PePa, & Grandpa to 16 grandchildren: Madeline, Rebecca, Alex, Joseph, Hannah, Rebecca, Genevieve, Christina, Daniel, Alexander, Jayson, Megan, Alessandra, Eric, Caroline and Katarina. Friends will be received on Monday, December 30th from 9:00 AM till 11:30 AM in the Hoover Funeral Home, Rt. 422 and Lucy Ave., Hershey followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Joan of Arc Church, 359, W. Areba Ave., Hershey at 12 noon. Interment will be private in the Hershey Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice or the Sacred Heart of Jesus Building Fund. Helen Morelli, 90, of Hershey passed away on Friday, November 29, 2013 in the Harrisburg Hospital.
She was born October 28, 1923 in Goriano Sicoli, Italy, a daughter of the late Domenic and Elizabeth (Colanira) Cifani. Mrs. Morelli was an active member of the St. Joan of Arc Church in Hershey. She enjoyed baking, cooking and gardening. She was a loving wife and mother whose life revolved around her family. Surviving are her daughters, Rosanne (William) Claypoole of Hershey and Jeanne Morelli of Hershey; a sister, Joan Cifani of Parma, OH,; granddaughters, Elizabeth and Emily Claypoole of Hershey, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband, Oswald "Ozzie" Morelli, 1 brother and 1 sister. There will be no viewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in her church on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at 1 pm. Interment will be in the Hershey Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions be made to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, 3908 Corey Road, Harrisburg, PA 17109. Lidia F. Pronio, 89,of Hershey passed away on November 21, 2013 in the Pinnacle Community General Osteopathic Hospital.
She was born January 2, 1924 in Desenzano del Garda, Italy. Lidia was a retired employee of the PA State Police Training Academy in Hershey and was a member of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church. Surviving is her son, Claudio A. Pronio and daughter in law, Darla, as well as numerous other family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfredo "Fred" Pronio. Her life will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, November 25th, at 2:00 pm in her church at 359 West Areba Ave., Hershey. Inurnment will be in Italy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association , 3544 N Progress Ave Harrisburg, PA 17110. Lucy M. Heisey (nee: Lucia Massimina Simonetti), 80, of Hershey passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2013, in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 7, 1933 in Hershey, a daughter of the late Emidio and Assunta (Veronesi) Simonetti. Lucy was a graduate of Hershey High School. She retired from St. Joan of Arc School in Hershey, where she worked in the cafeteria, and worked many years for HERCO. She was an avid bingo player and loved to take day trips to Atlantic City, N.J.
She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Raymond Heisey Sr.; her sisters, Erma Hurley and Mary Simonetti; and her brothers, Louis and Geno Simonetti. Surviving are her three children; daughter, Susan Miller of Hershey; and sons, Raymond Heisey Jr. and wife Rachael of Overland Park, Kansas, and Brian Heisey and wife Missie of Elizabethtown; five grandchildren, Christi (Miller) Eckert, Nicole Miller, Amanda Heisey, Kacey Heisey and Benjamin Heisey; two great grandsons, Bailey and Blayke Eckert. Hospice of Central Pennsylvania provided compassionate and professional care for Lucy for many years. A viewing will be held Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. in the Hoover Funeral Home in Hershey followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. in the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Hershey, Interment will be in the Grandview Memorial Park, Annville, Pa. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association , 3544 N. Progress Avenue, Suite 204, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
