Evelyn M. McFarlane, 92, of the Castagna Green House at the Lebanon Valley Brethren
Home and formerly of Hershey, passed away on September 18, 2016. She was born October 13, 1923 in Baltimore, MD, daughter of the late John and Victoria (Kendryna) Bruno. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Burr C. McFarlane in 2008. She was a retired employee of the Federal Government. Memberships include the National Active & Retired Federal Employee Association and St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church in Hershey. Evelyn loved all animals, especially all her pets who have preceded her in death. She is survived by her nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in her church at 359 West Areba Avenue in Hershey at 11:00AM on Thursday, September 29th. Interment will be with her husband at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church or to Interfaith Shelter for Homeless Families, C/O Catholic Charities, 4800 Union Deposit Road, Harrisburg PA 17109. Raymond Manari, Sr. of Hershey passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at the age of 85. Born September 25, 1930, he is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lena Doris Manari, his son, Raymond Jr. and his wife, Roslyn, and two granddaughters, Christen and Courtney.
He was a retired executive of the Federal government and key manager of the International Military Security Assistance program within the Department of Defense (1950-1986). Ray was an Army veteran, a graduate of Hershey High School class of 1947 and earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma. Upon retiring, he began a a second career as President/Owner of both C&M Heating and Air Conditioning Company and Tender Hearts Child Development Center. Additionally, he was a Supervisor for Derry Township and served as a member of the Zoning Board. Ray was a lifelong member of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, the Hershey Italian Lodge and the Hershey Country Club. Those who knew him will remember him as a fun-loving person, wonderful and beloved husband, father and grandfather. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. in Hershey, on Wednesday, September 21st from 6:00 - 8:00PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, September 22nd, at 11:00AM followed by burial at the Hershey Cemetery. She was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Dellia Ortenzi born in Brooklyn, New York on December 21, 1924.
She moved to Hershey at age 7 and graduated from Hershey High School in 1943. Following graduation, Theresa worked at the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot before her marriage. Then in 1964/65 she was employed by the State of Pennsylvania until she retired at age 66. She was a caring mother and grandmother. She was an avid bridge player and played with the same group of ladies for over 50 years. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc and St. Charles Bottomeo Catholic churches. Theresa was the widow of Raymond W. Croak. She is survived by her son John Croak (Sheila) and her daughter RaeAnn MacIntyre(William). She also has a grandson William (Katie) and a granddaughter Kelly (James) and 2 great-grandchildren Peter and Ennis. Theresa also leaves behind 2 sisters Grace Cluely and Mildred Ortenzi. Visitation will begin at 2:00pm on Friday, September 16th, followed by the funeral service at 2:30pm in the Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. in Hershey. She was born December 16, 1926 in Hershey, daughter of the late Pierto and Theresa (Piconi) Gasper. Maggie was a retired employee of Hershey Foods; she was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church; the Areba Club; and Senior Spirit of Palmyra. Mrs. Harris is survived by; daughter, Linda Warfield of Palmyra; son, Raymond Harris of Hershey; grandsons, Jeffrey Bangert of Palmyra and Jordan Warfield of Hudson, OH; granddaughter, Holly Bechtel of Palmyra; great grandchildren, Ashley and Paul Bechtel of Palmyra and James Warfield of Hudson, OH; sisters, Mary Vieli Whisler of Middletown, Rosie Jennings of Palmyra, and Jean Cover of Elizabethtown; and brother, Milt Purcell of Hershey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Claude Harris; and a daughter Sandra Goodling; and several brothers & sisters. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 5:30PM, followed by a viewing from 6-8PM, on Thursday, September 15, 2016, in the Hoover Funeral Homes & Crematory in Hershey. There will also be a viewing at the funeral home on Friday morning from 9:30 - 10:30AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 16, 2016 at 11 AM in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Hershey. Interment will be in the Hershey Cemetery. She was born at Geisinger Hospital on March 11, 1949, a daughter of the late Raymond A. and Mary (Pauza) Saukaitis.
She was a resident of Mount Carmel until 1966, when she left the area and lived in Iowa, Hershey and lastly, in Hummelstown. She was a 1966 graduate of Mount Carmel High School and a 1970 graduate of Penn State University, where she received her Bachelor of Science. She then earned her master's degree from Iowa State. Mary retired in 2011 as a dietician at Hershey Medical Center, where she also worked with diabetic and burned children. Mary was a former member of St. Joseph's Church in Mount Carmel, and currently a member of St. Joan of Arc Church in Hershey. Survivors include a brother, Raymond Saukaitis and his wife, Alana, of Trevorton, as well as cousins. Relatives, friends and neighbors are invited to attend a funeral Mass 11 a.m. Wednesday, in St. Joan of Arc Church, 359 Areba Avenue, Hershey, with Father Al Sceski, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Mount Carmel Township at 11:30 a.m. Thursday. C.J. Lucas Funeral Home, Inc., 27 N. Vine St., Mount Carmel, C.J.
