Richard “Dick” William Deiling, 86, of Hershey, passed away Monday, May 20, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born to the late William and Mary Monks Deiling on October 21, 1932 in Keokuk, Iowa. Dick attended St. Paul’s Catholic School in Burlington Iowa, class of 1951, where he met the love of his life, Lois. They were married on May 10, 1952 and would spend the next five decades raising their nine children and traveling the world visiting friends and family.
Dick served as a corporal in the United States Army in the 28th and 9th infantry divisions from 1952 until 1954. After leaving the army, he attended South East Iowa Business College, graduating in 1957 as an accountant. He spent his entire career at Univar Corporation, formerly McKesson Chemical and Van Waters & Rogers, retiring as a National Account Sales Manager. He was a long time member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Parish in Hershey. He was actively involved in many ministries in the church, including Eucharistic minister, finance committee, parish council, and Knights of Columbus. Above all Dick was a family man - a beloved son, husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed family celebrations, travel, playing games, picnics, hikes, golf, and spending time with the people he loved. He had an endless curiosity for gadgets, his family heritage, and photography. Everyone sought his advice on the latest in cutting edge technology. Dick is predeceased by his loving wife of 48 years, Lois K. “Robinson” Deiling and is survived by his nine children. Sons: Michael (Sue), Pat (Angie), Tom (Jennifer), Robert (Pam), Brian (Sharon). Daughters: Joan (Walter) Lepore, Lora (Mark) Rogers, Nancy (Robert) Kirk, Linda (Scott) Bidding. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his seventeen grandchildren: Amy (Tony) Mason, Tony Rivera, Tim and Chelly Deiling, Katie and Andy (Allie) Rogers, Kelly and Reilly Kirk, Jackie and Steve Lepore, Carolyn, Lauren, Owen, and Aiden Bidding, Veronica and William Deiling, and Ian Deiling. Dick will forever be remembered for his strong faith in God, love of family and friends, and endless generosity. A recitation of the Rosary with Visitation to follow will be held on Thursday, May 23, 5:30pm-8:00pm at the Hoover Funeral Home in Hershey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 24, 11:00am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Hershey. Interment will follow at the Hershey Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Heart of the Parish Fund of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Avenue, Hershey PA 17033. Margaret C. Burke, 92, of Hershey, passed away on April 24, 2019 at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 11, 1927 in Carbondale, daughter of the late Edward and Anna Burns.
She was a faithful member of St. Joan of Arc Church of Hershey. Margaret was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, devoting her life to raising her family. She is survived by 4 Sons: John, Jr. and wife Diane, Robert R. and wife Clarisse, Edward L. and wife Erin, Kevin J. and wife Ruth; 3 daughters: Carol and husband Thomas Hand, Mary Lou and husband Fran Kulbacki, and Colleen Mummert; 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, John J. Burke; an infant daughter, Ann; and sisters, Dorothy Blair and Ann Mizianty. A visitation will be held in the Hoover Funeral Home of Hershey on Monday, April 29 from 10 - 11:30AM, followed by Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 12 Noon in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Ave., Hershey. Interment will be in the Hershey Cemetery in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The family would like to give special thanks to Bill Lutz for his daily spiritual comfort and support for Margaret. Donovan, 88, of Hershey, PA, passed away on April 10, 2019. He was born December 19, 1930 in Pittsburgh, PA, son of the late William and Agnes (Holzwarth) Donovan.
Richard was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and served in the Army as a Military Police Officer. He retired from New York Air Brake, Inc. He was a lifelong usher and greeter at every parish he attended. Richard was a member of the Areba Club in Hershey and a 4th Degree Knight at Our Lady Star of the Sea K.O.C Council #7122, Myrtle Beach, SC. He was also an avid golfer. Survived by his wife, Carol Jean (Alauzen) Donovan; 4 children, Michele Bachman of Elizabethtown, Bryan (Lisa) Donovan of Hudson, NH, Rebecca (David) Doherty of Thief River Falls, MN and Mary Ellen Fiorentino of Webster, NY; 9 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Ruth McGill and Nora Gordon both of Pittsburgh. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 1:00 pm with a visitation beginning at 12:30pm in the St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Ave., Hershey, PA 17033. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of the Phoenix Unit at Frey Village for their excellent care.
