John R. "Dick" Zimmerman, 84, of Hershey, passed away on February 23, 2020 at home surrounded by his family.
He was born March 1, 1935 in Sharon, PA, son of the late Anthony and Rita (McCarthy) Zimmerman. A graduate of John Harris High School, Mr. Zimmerman had worked for 32 years until retiring as a plant manager from the former Republic Steel Corp. in Harrisburg. After retiring, he had also ran his own courier service business. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus; and the Hershey Italian Lodge. He was a proud U.S. Marine that served on the U.S.S. Missouri. Dick is survived by his wife, Virginia (Gusic) Zimmerman; daughter, Mary Ann (Dirk) Dayton; daughter, Lori (Bob, Jr.) McClintock; and grandchildren, Alexis and Zachary McClintock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, James and William. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 27th at 11AM in the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Ave., Hershey. The family will begin receiving guests at 10AM. Private interment and military honors will take place in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions be made to Centennial Fund, c/o St. Joan of Arc Church 359 W. Areba Ave. Hershey, PA 17033. Hoover Funeral Homes & Crematory of Hershey is handling the arrangements.

Donald F. Bitting, 82, of Hummelstown, passed away Saturday, February 29, 2020, in the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center with his family by his side. Born in Harrisburg on December 1, 1937, he was the son of the late William F. and Kathryn Ulrich Bitting. Don retired from United States Postal Service where he worked as a window clerk in the Highspire Office. He was a 1955 graduate of the former Harrisburg Catholic High School. Don served with the Army National Guard. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, Hershey. Don thoroughly enjoyed race cars especially drag racing in his younger days. He was a former Little League baseball and basketball coach; and played slow-pitch softball for many years. Most important to Don was spending time with his grandchildren who totally adored him. To them, Don was not just a grandpa, he was "Pop". Don is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara F. Guth Bitting, of whom he married on November 10, 1962; two sons, Donald P. Bitting of Phoenix, AZ, and David F. Bitting husband of Tracey of Hummelstown; one daughter, Jodi Ann Polly wife of Timothy of West Hanover Township; six grandchildren, Morgan Bitting, Bret Bitting, Brianna Polly, Allison Bitting, Brooke Polly, and Paige Bitting; and one sister, Doris Jean Heintzelman of Camp Hill. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Thursday, March 5, 2020, from 12:00 noon to 1 PM at the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown. The family will hold a private service and inurnment. Contributions in Don's memory may be directed to support Bladder Cancer Research at the PSU Cancer Institute.
