Albert Harry Snyder, 79, died on January 8, 2019, at Country Meadows after a long battle with dementia. Born on September 25, 1939, he was the son of the late Paul and Olive Snyder of Littlestown, Pennsylvania.
After graduating from Littlestown High School in 1957, he continued his studies at George Washington University where he was awarded a full scholarship to play football and earned a degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting. Albert spent his early career in various roles as an accountant in Washington D.C and Potomac, Maryland where he joined Pulte Homes, rising to the role of Division President and General Manager after moving to Pennsylvania. In the early 1980's, Albert left Pulte and purchased Commonwealth Mailing Services that he led for 15 years. Albert was a long-time member of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, Hershey, and the Harrisburg Bridge Club. He supported the community through his active service to the church, coaching sports when his children were young, and volunteering for Hospice of Central Pennsylvania. In 1998, he and his wife, Joyce Snyder, were the first couple to be awarded the annual A. Thomas Andrews Founders Award in recognition of their dedicated service to Hospice. Albert was known for his corny jokes and his quick way with numbers. He was always looking for that next antique find and as a result of this passion; his family has tangible memories of him. He was an avid sports fan and always kept up with the success of the Littlestown Thunderbolts. His quick wit and intellectual drive can be seen in his children and grandchildren, to whom he was a proud father and grandfather. Albert is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce with whom he shared 48 years, and his brothers Paul Snyder and George Snyder. Surviving are his children, Michael (Susan) Snyder of Mason, Ohio, Jodie (Randy) Kitchens of Beaverdam, Virginia, Mark (Wendy) Snyder of Hershey, Pennsylvania, Julie (Christopher) Blanker of Orangeburg, New York, and Jaime (Curtis) Snyder of Seattle, Washington; and ten loving grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Loraine Glass of Littlestown, Pennsylvania, and two brothers, Larry Snyder of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and Fred Snyder of Titusville, New Jersey. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 12th at 2pm in his church at 359 West Areba Avenue, Hershey. Interment services will immediately follow in the Hershey Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a reception following the services. Send condolences at www.hooverfuneralhome.com
