Bolek Dominick Yascavage, 85 , of Hummelstown, PA passed away peacefully on December 29, 2017. Dom was born in 1932, Shamokin, PA. He graduated from Coal Township High School in 1950. His parents were Nicholas and Victoria (Dansavage) Yascavage. Dom married his sweetheart, Connie Shalongo in 1958.
As an accomplished US Army sergeant he served in the Korean War. Dom began his career at the Enola Railroad Yards and later worked at the Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey. In 1970, along with his brother and sister-in-law, Nick and Annie, and his wife Connie, he opened Dom "N" Nicks Tavern, now known as Chicks Tavern of Hummelstown. He went on to be the chef, manager and quarter master of the former Hummelstown VFW Post 1687. Dom worked as a cook at Guido McNeal's, Middletown, and the former Ice House in Palmyra. Most recently he went on to run the kitchens of the Shellsville VFW Post 9639 and Penbrook VFW 1718, were he was also a life member. Also being a life member of the Hummelstown American Legion 265, and of the East End Fire Company of his hometown of Shamokin, and served as the last Dauphin County Commander for the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed polka music and never missed the Lawrence Welk Show. Dominick was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Connie and four brothers, Albert, Jack, Nicholas and Daniel Yascavage. He leaves three sons, David and his wife, Cindy (Kauffman) of Annville, and their two children, Kristen of Annville, Adam and his fiance, Alexa of Raleigh, NC, Ronald of Hummelstown, and Dominick and his wife, Pamela (Pellegrini) of Hershey. Dom will be remembered as a well respected leader, husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend and most of all for his famous baked chicken and polish cooking. He was famous for his generous portions and was well known for always giving back to the community. Friends may call on the family, January 5, 2018 at St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Avenue, Hershey, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. for fellowship. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at the church at 11:30 a.m. Inurnment will be at 1:30 p.m. in Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. All are welcome. Trefz and Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements. The family asks that if you would like to make memorial contributions, please give to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 897, Hershey, PA 17033 or to the Lebanon VA Center, 1700 Lincoln Avenue, Lebanon, PA 17042.
