Edward Salvatore Ionni, 80, of Harrisburg, and Fort Myers, Florida passed away September 27th, 2022, after a hard fought 3-year battle with cancer. Ed was born August 24th, 1942 in Hershey. Ed was the only child of the late Evo J. and Mida (Marani) Ionni. He was a graduate of St. Joan of Arc Parochial School, Hershey High School class of 1960, and The University of Maryland College Park in 1964. Ed began his career as a Certified Public Accountant with the AMP Corporation before joining Dean Witter as a licensed stockbroker in 1968. He retired at age 55 from Merrill Lynch in 1998. He enjoyed his retirement years playing countless rounds of golf, pitching for several men's softball teams, and taking in Minnesota Twins spring training games in Florida. His most cherished time was spent watching the sporting events of his 5 grandchildren. He was a member of the Colonial Country Club and the Hershey Country Club where he was able to build lasting friendships on and off the golf course. Ed was an avid sports fan and thoroughly enjoyed his time with friends at many various sporting events, but his favorite place to be was at any University of Maryland game, rooting for his beloved Terps. He was also a member of the Hershey Italian Lodge and very proud of his Italian heritage. Ed's generosity ran deep and this was reflected in the many local charities he supported, and the people he quietly helped throughout his life. Ed is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Randy (Tulli); his daughter, Julie Galich (Nino) of Marietta, Georgia; son David (Anita) of Harrisburg and five grandchildren, Grayson and Ava Galich and Marco, Griffin and Max Ionni. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Monday, October 3, 2022 in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 W. Areba Ave. in Hershey. A private interment will take place in the Hershey Cemetery. The family will visit with friends at a reception, following the mass. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Ed's memory to the Harrisburg Humane Society (humanesocietyhbg.org) or Guadalupe Center in Immokalee, Florida (guadalupecenter.org).
