Elizabeth (Sherbine) Frola LTC USAR (Ret), 73, of Harrisburg, formerly of Hershey, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2020, at home. She was born on February 22, 1947, in McKeesport, PA, and grew up in West Middlesex, PA, the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Considine) Sherbine. Beth was a graduate of West Middlesex High School. She obtained her Nursing Diploma from St. Francis Hospital in New Castle, PA; her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Loretto Heights College in Denver, CO: and her Master of Science in Nursing from Penn State University. She served on active duty at Fitzsimons General Hospital, Denver, CO, during the Vietnam War. Beth then joined the Army Reserve and with her active duty time served a total of 27 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Her reserve unit, the 316th Station Hospital was mobilized during Desert Storm, and she served with them in Riyahd, Saudi Arabia. Beth worked at The Milton S. Hershey Medial Center in Nursing Education for 33 years until retirement after her marriage to Jerry Frola in 2005. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Church in Hershey where she was a Lector, an Extra-ordinary Minister of Holy Communion, a member of the Parish Nurse Ministry which she helped organize in 1997, and a member of the Consolation/Bereavement Ministry. Beth was also a Cursillista. In her retirement she volunteered with Vision Resources of PA to read for the blind, and she also volunteered with the Visiting Nurse Association to give flu shots during the flu season. Beth was a faith-filled person and dedicated Catholic who liked people and kept in touch with many friends. She enjoyed reading and cooking. She loved to travel and was able with her husband to visit over 19 foreign countries and nearly all of the 50 states Beth is survived by her husband, Jerry; step-sons, Edward (Gail) and Michael (Melanie) both of Virginia; step-grandchildren, Matthew, Diane, Kyra and Nicholas; brother, Joseph (Darlene) Sherbine of Sharpsville, PA; nephews, Douglas and Scott Sherbine; and sister-in-law, Christine Sherbine of New York. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Gregory Sherbine. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Hershey. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Pittsburgh, PA. Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc, 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements. The family suggests memorial contributions to the “Heart of the Parish Fund”, St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Avenue, Hershey, PA 17033; or to the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, PO Box 4469, Washington, DC 20017 (milarch.org/donate). The family would like to extend a special thank you to Beth’s long-time nurse friends and Hospice of Central Pennsylvania for their support during the last few months.
