Emerick S. O'Lear, 85, of Traditions of Hershey and formerly of McAdoo until 1991, died Friday, August 19, 2016 at the Masonic Village, Elizabethtown.
Born June 24, 1931 in McAdoo, he was a son of the late Joseph and Anna (Olenick) O'Lear and the widower of Catherine (Ferry) O'Lear who died in 1996. He was also preceded in death by siblings Cecelia, Joseph, Stephen, John, and Adam. Rick was a 1949 graduate of McAdoo High School and Air Force veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. Along with his mother and brother, he owned O'Lears Catering in McAdoo and later was the owner of Scraffords Inn in Hometown. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Surviving are his children Cornelia, wife of Jeff Tyler of Lebanon, Cecelia, wife of Mark Baldwin of Hummelstown, Emerick J. O'Lear and partner Larry Lynch of Tamaqua, and John, husband of Jean O'Lear of McAdoo; sister Betty Ann Pavelko of Harrisburg; seven grandchildren; and two great grandsons. He loved his family and loved reunions with his extended family, where he served as the patriarch. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews who always looked forward to seeing their Uncle Emerick. He was affectionately known as Gramps to many others who knew him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at his church, 359 West Areba Avenue, Hershey. Interment at 4:00 PM Wednesday in Saint Patrick's Cemetery, McAdoo. Viewings 6:00 - 8:00 PM Tuesday and 10:00 - 10:30 AM Wednesday both at Buse Funeral Home, 2 East Main Street, Hummelstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Masonic Village or Masonic Village Hospice. Both can be mailed to 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
