Hans Gangl (1929 - 2016)

Hans Gangl, 87, of Hershey, passed away on August 5, 2016 after a lengthy illness.

He was born May 6, 1929 in Harth, Austria, son of the late Franz and Maria (Mortinger) Gangl.

Hans left home at age 14 to apprentice at the Hotel Sacher, Vienna, Austria. Upon completion of his apprenticeship, Hans went on to work at some of the finest hotels and resorts throughout Europe and North America. He settled in Hershey in 1965 where he served as maître d at the Hotel Hershey for 25 years. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church where he served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Hershey.

Hans is survived by his wife of 53 years, Eugenie A. Gangl of Hershey; son, Mark C. Gangl, wife, Caroline, and daughters Mari and Megan of Lancaster; son, Thomas A. Gangl, wife, Patty, and daughters Katlyn and Courtney of Bel Air, MD; son, Martin J. Gangl and wife, Amy, of Mount Joy; brother, Franz Gangl; and 2 nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Karl Gangl.

A visitation will be held Friday, August 12, 2016, 9:30 am - 10:30 am, in the Hoover Funeral Homes & Crematory, of Hershey. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 12, 2016 at 11 am in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Ave., Hershey. Interment will be in the Hershey Cemetery.
