Albert Bos, 90, died at home in Hershey, PA, on 6 June 2017, in the company of family after a multiple-year battle with Lewy Body dementia. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Evelyn "Susie" (Robbins) Bos formerly of Carlisle, PA, and his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Bos Taylor and Brian Taylor, of Sterling, VA.
Born in Overveen, The Netherlands, in 1926, he served in the Royal Dutch Navy in World War II and upon completion, worked at a flower bulb importer in Germany for several years. Albert immigrated to the United States in 1948 and worked for a flower grower in Florida and then, in 1954, met the love of his life, Susie, in her family's flower business; they were wed in 1955. Albert became a U.S. citizen on June 27, 1960. Soon after he and Susie started his company, Dutch Mill Bulbs, Inc, a mail-order flower-bulb import business for fund raising. He and his wife would travel over 30 states, visiting various organizations to promote his product. His business was based in Hershey until 1998 when it was sold. In retirement, Albert enjoyed following the stock market daily and going out for lunch with Susie. Albert was a member of St. Joan of Arc since 1969. He loved the Lord and was a devout Catholic. He was also involved in the Hershey Kiwanis Club. Albert loved flowers and visiting nurseries and Susie also shared this love. When he wasn't busy in the bulb business, Albert enjoyed swimming and was a member of the Aquatic Club at the Hotel Hershey. More than swimming, he loved to dance. With his favorite dance partner, Albert frequented the old-time Starlight ballroom with the big bands of Jimmy Dorsey, and Xavier Cougar. For almost 30 years, Albert and Susie were one of the "regulars" at the Hotel Hershey's Iberian Lounge where they would dance away their Saturday nights. He and Susie even had their honeymoon at the Hotel. In addition, Albert loved art, specifically Dutch artists, his favorite being Vermeer. He enjoyed collecting books about art. He also loved classical music, especially Beethoven, but would come to enjoy Frank Sinatra and Paul Simon. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on 12 June 2017 at 11:00am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 W. Areba Ave., Hershey, PA 17033. Interment will be in the Hershey Cemetery.
