Kathryn A. Hollinger Peterson, 71, of Hummelstown, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2021, at her home. Born in Detroit, MI, on May 19, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Bleistein Hollinger and Elisabeth Anne Allwein Hollinger. Kathy retired as the Executive Assistant of Equine Studies for Wilson College, Chambersburg. Upon her retirement she continued with her own business as an independent, private equine instructor and lecturer. A former international equestrian trainer, Kathy was also the coach and trainer for the United States Olympic Equestrian Team. In her younger years, she modeled for many department stores including the infamous Hudson’s in Detroit. Kathy was a 1967 graduate of Ladywood High School, Livonia, MI; and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Equine Science and a Master’s in Education from Wilson College. She attended St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, Hershey. Kathy was passionate about horses, the Detroit Red Wings and live music. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, colleagues and former students. Kathy is survived by two sons, Joseph Peterson husband of Jennifer Strevig of Athens, GA, and Josh Peterson and his girlfriend Lisa Gehlich of Landrum, SC; one granddaughter, Sonja Peterson of Athens, GA; siblings, Mary Lokken wife of Rob, and David Hollinger husband of Kathleen Wilson Hollinger, both of Livonia, MI, and Sally Potocki wife of Thom of Novi, MI; and several nieces and nephews. A Prayer service will be held Friday, February 5, 2021, at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Fr. Alfred P. Sceski, as officiant. Friends are invited to visit with the family Friday from 10 AM until time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be sent to the United States Equestrian Team Foundation, PO Box 355, Gladstone, NJ 07934-0355. Comments are closed.
