Marguerite Elizabeth “Beth” Gattens, 63, of Hershey, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, September 16, 2018.
Born August 12, 1955, in Keyser, WV, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Edward and Myra Luvena (Bever) Determan. She was preceded in death by her sister, Susan J. (Determan) Matlick. Ms. Gattens was a 1973 graduate of Bruce High School in Westernport, MD, and completed the Secretarial Science Program at Allegany Community College. She devoted her life to her children in her early years and then worked at the Hershey Medical Center in later life. Strong in faith, she was an active member at her parish at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Hershey. She was an active part of her children's lives, remembered for her laughter, love of her baking and crafts, and her faith in God. She is survived by Erin Hubbard and husband David, of Staunton, VA, Dave Gattens and wife Erin, of Elizabethtown, PA, and Brooke Zepp and husband Cory, of Willow Grove, PA, who rejoice in the life that she lived. She loved her six grandchildren Ryleigh, Sawyer, Leighton, Fynna, Zachary, and Holly, and was cherished by them dearly. Family meant everything to her, and she celebrated life often with her sisters and brother, Marie Whiteman and her husband Ed of Woodbridge, VA, Jayne Barnes and her husband David of Bel Air, MD, Joe Determan, Jr., and his wife Martha of East Stroudsburg, PA, Cindy Nelson and husband Bill of Westernport, MD, and Jeannie Guy and her husband Scott of Glen Allen, VA. Her ten nieces and nephews and eleven great-nieces and great-nephews will always remember her giving nature and caring smile. There will be a visitation in the Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory, 88 Lucy Ave., Hershey on Friday, September 21, 2018 from 1 - 2 PM; followed by Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 W. Areba Ave., Hershey at 2:30 PM. Private interment will take place in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Westernport, MD. Flowers may be sent to Hoover Funeral Home, or memorial contributions can be made to the PA Breast Cancer Coalition or St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
