Metro Butsko of Hershey peacefully passed away at the age of 87 from complications of pneumonia on February 19, 2017 at ManorCare Lebanon.
Metro was born on October 19, 1929 in Mount Pleasant, Pa and was the son of Polish-Ukrainian immigrants Alex and Anna Szerba Butsko. As a young man he worked as a coal miner and in 1950 he entered the Army and served proudly during the Korean conflict. On February 11, 1956 he married the former Joan Andruscavage in Shenandoah, PA and were married for 52 years. Metro was a member of the VFW Post 3502 and the American Legion. Metro worked for the Reading railroad and retired from Conrail where he was a car inspector. He enjoyed spending time outside, the Saturday's Market and tinkering around the house during his retirement. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan (2007), his parents, brothers, Peter, Andrew, John and Paul and sisters Mary and Fenda. Metro is survived by his two children, Glen Butsko and his wife Connie of Savannah, Georgia and Sharon Smith and her husband Travis Smith of Stuart, Florida; six grandchildren Kayla, Kyle, Mason, Curtis, Parker and Addison; companion of 9 years Irene Williams of Lansdale, PA, brothers Frank of San Clemente, CA, Harry of Duncannon, PA, and sister Katie of Ashland, PA; and many nieces and nephews. "Mitt, Met, Dad, Grandpa and Pop Pop", Brother, Father and Grandfather, was a gentleman and beloved friend, he will sadly be missed. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 11AM in the Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory of Hershey. The family will begin receiving guests at 10AM. Metro will be laid to rest in the Hershey Cemetery.
