Derry Township Police Officer Michael L. Henry, Jr. passed away Thursday, January 2, 2020 at The Hershey Medical Center with his wife, Jackie by his side. Officer Henry was born on September 6, 1969 in Harrisburg, PA. A 1987 graduate of Lower Dauphin High School he loved Hummelstown and the many friendships he made. Following High School, Michael joined the Army and was a member of the 4th of the 9th Field Artillery Delta Battery stationed in Germany from 1987-1990 where he had an honorable discharge to pursue his passion for law enforcement, specifically Derry Township Police Department. He was a 1996 graduate of Penn State University with a BS in Criminal Justice, and a 1997 graduate of the 68th Pennsylvania State Police Academy where he was Class President. He continued his love for the military with his service in the PA Army National Guard until 1995. Michael’s life passion was service. He began working at HersheyPark as a security officer, and Derry Township as a Community Service Officer from 1995-1998. Michael was proud to then continue his service with Derry Township as a Patrol Officer for 21years. Throughout his law enforcement career, he served as a MCSAP (Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program) Inspector; a member of the Traffic Safety Unit (Accident Reconstruction); and his final and proudest achievement was becoming a member of the Derry Township Police Motorcycle Unit. He was past Commander of the Hershey American Legion Post #386, a member of Mount Lebanon Lodge #226 F&AM, and St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church. His family was his number one priority. He loved spending time with his wife, Jackie, and two children. He took great pride in watching his daughter, Samantha, compete in collegiate gymnastics for Kent State University and his son, Zachary, play Hershey Youth Flag Football and ice hockey for Hershey, and The Palmyra Black Knights. He also loved vacationing with his family and friends during beach trips, camping outings and sporting events. Michael is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Jackie (Brown) Henry and their two children, Samantha and Zachary; and his in-laws, Richard & Loretta Brown. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Visiting hours will be held from 1-3pm and 5:30-7:30pm on Tuesday January 7th in the Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory, 88 Lucy Avenue, Hershey. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30am on Wednesday January 8th in the St. Joan Arc Roman Catholic Church, 359 W. Areba Ave., Hershey. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Officer M.L. Henry Jr Memorial Fund, C/O Jackie Henry, P.O. Box 716, Hershey PA 17033
