Melina (Pichini) Landis, 88, of Hershey, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2018 in the Gardens at Campbelltown, surrounded by her family.
She was born October 2, 1929 in Hershey, daughter of the late Sebastian and Emeila (DeCaroli) Pichini. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Elwood (Woody) Landis and her second husband Francis Coyle; sister Angelina DeCaroli, and brothers, Pat DeCaroli, Mario Pichini, Ralph Pichini, Maggio Pichini and Marino Pichini. Millie is survived by her son, Charles (Sandy) Landis of Austin, TX, daughters, Pamela (Ben) Alger of Hershey and Patricia (Jesse) Landis of Mount Joy and five grandchildren Jason (Katie) Landis of Carlisle, Kristin (Ryan) Harvey of Austin, TX, Jennifer Alger of Mount Joy, Megan Landis of Downingtown, Jonathan Alger of Palmyra and one great-grandchild, Erika Landis of Carlisle. Millie graduated from Hershey High School and continued her education at Hershey Junior College. Millie later graduated with a Masters in Humanities from Penn State Harrisburg where she worked and retired as Registrar in 1994. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and was involved in many church activities including the Legion of Mary and was a former cub scout and girl scout leader. She was also active in the Derry Township Historical Society, the Hershey Library and a contributor to the Hershey Museum, and later the Hershey Story. She wrote historical articles for several local papers, gave presentations about Milton Hershey, co‑authored books, did an extensive history of Italian immigrants and Swatara Station. She received many awards from various organizations for her outstanding volunteer work. During her retirement she enjoyed knitting, baking, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. A visitation will be held Friday, June 29, 2018 from 6:00 pm ‑ 8:00 pm, in the Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Hershey. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 5:30PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 10:30am in the St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Ave., Hershey. Interment will follow in the Hershey Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Joan of Arc School, 329 West Areba Avenue, Hershey PA 17033 or to the Friends of the Hershey Public Library, 701 Cocoa Avenue, Hershey PA 17033.
