Lucy J. Cavrich, 90, of Hershey, passed away on November 11, 2022 in the Hershey Medical Center.
She was born April 12, 1932 in Harrisburg, a daughter of the late Phillip and Angela (Inero) Calla. Lucy was a 1950 graduate of John Harris High School. She retired as a Legal Assistant from the Commonwealth of PA. Lucy is survived by her sister, Mary Bowker; her Aunt, Nancy Fulginiti; nephews, Stephen Bowker, Phil Calla, Joseph Calla, David Knepp and her niece, Lisa Pine and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas Cavrich; sisters, Minnie Calla, Rose Martini, Angie Bracale, Helen Schaffhauser and her brother, Phillip Calla. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 12:30pm in the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Ave., Hershey. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Harrisburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society,

Ronald Roy Duquette, 90, of Hershey, PA, passed away on Nov. 8, 2022. Born in Ludlow, MA on Oct. 12, 1932 to the late John B. Duquette and Eldea (Gaudreau) Duquette, he grew up in Springfield, MA and graduated from Classical HS and AIC (BS in Accounting). He joined the Air Force, was stationed in Texas, and married his high school sweetheart Martha (Saurer) in 1956, the same day he received his Navigator Wings. He served five years as a Navigator and a Radar Intercept Officer flight line instructor. He returned to Springfield and worked for the U.S. Postal Service (1959 - 1996). In addition to his wife of nearly 67 years, the joys of his life were his two daughters Carolyn Devine (Harry) of Hershey, PA and Joanne Ferguson (Michael) of Little Silver, NJ, six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Ron and Martha traveled extensively and independently in the US and abroad including to Europe, Australia, Japan, and South Africa. Locally, Ron loved to body-surf until age 80 at Misquamicut Beach, RI. He was a parishioner of Holy Cross Church, Springfield, MA for over 60 years, and of St. Joan of Arc Church, since relocating to Hershey, PA in 2017. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his sisters Dorothy Foley and Phyllis Kiernan, and brother Alfred. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 14th at 11:30am in the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Hershey. Visitation will begin at 10:30am in the church. Private interment with military honors will be at a later date at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery Annville, PA. Please omit flowers. Dolores A. Rossi, 89, of Hershey died Monday, October 24, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 24, 1933 in Hershey to the late Salvador and Marion Bilotta. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Parish in Hershey.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Albert J. Rossi, and her son Aaron. She is survived by her children, Albert Rossi II (Phyllis), Andrew Rossi (Revena), Allan Rossi (Carol), Alice (Thomas) Cooper, and Adam Rossi; her grandchildren Molly Cooper Wilson, Adam Cooper, Sarah Rossi, Lily Rossi, and Ryann Rossi; two great-grandchildren, Raegan Cooper and Cooper Wilson; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. in St Joan of Arc Church on Monday, October 31, 2022 followed by inurnment at the Hershey Cemetery. Valania, 54, of Hummelstown, passed away on October 22, 2022. He is survived by his wife, Tracy (Thomas); his three children Erich, Ryan, and Zachary; and his parents Dolores (Karl) and Peter Valania. He is preceded in death by his sister Ann Marie Valania. A visitation will be held in the Hoover Funeral Home, 88 Lucy Ave, Hershey, on Friday, October 28, from 5-7 PM. Edward Salvatore Ionni, 80, of Harrisburg, and Fort Myers, Florida passed away September 27th, 2022, after a hard fought 3-year battle with cancer. Ed was born August 24th, 1942 in Hershey. Ed was the only child of the late Evo J. and Mida (Marani) Ionni. He was a graduate of St. Joan of Arc Parochial School, Hershey High School class of 1960, and The University of Maryland College Park in 1964. Ed began his career as a Certified Public Accountant with the AMP Corporation before joining Dean Witter as a licensed stockbroker in 1968. He retired at age 55 from Merrill Lynch in 1998. He enjoyed his retirement years playing countless rounds of golf, pitching for several men's softball teams, and taking in Minnesota Twins spring training games in Florida. His most cherished time was spent watching the sporting events of his 5 grandchildren. He was a member of the Colonial Country Club and the Hershey Country Club where he was able to build lasting friendships on and off the golf course. Ed was an avid sports fan and thoroughly enjoyed his time with friends at many various sporting events, but his favorite place to be was at any University of Maryland game, rooting for his beloved Terps. He was also a member of the Hershey Italian Lodge and very proud of his Italian heritage. Ed's generosity ran deep and this was reflected in the many local charities he supported, and the people he quietly helped throughout his life. Ed is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Randy (Tulli); his daughter, Julie Galich (Nino) of Marietta, Georgia; son David (Anita) of Harrisburg and five grandchildren, Grayson and Ava Galich and Marco, Griffin and Max Ionni. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Monday, October 3, 2022 in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 W. Areba Ave. in Hershey. A private interment will take place in the Hershey Cemetery. The family will visit with friends at a reception, following the mass. Edward L. Vey, Jr. husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Hershey Medical Center on September 17th. He was born in Philadelphia to the late Edward and Dorothy Vey in 1942. Ed was raised with a strong faith cemented by Catholic schools, and proudly graduated from Villanova University in 1964. His education ensured his successful life path. He proudly served in the Navy for twenty-six years both active duty and reserves until his retirement rising to the rank of Commander. He also enjoyed a career in banking working at Dauphin Deposit Bank in Harrisburg and earlier, Commonwealth Bank in Lancaster. He served many charitable organizations, most notably, as a national board member for the Arthritis Foundation for decades. Alongside him for his life's journey, was the love of his life, Jeanie Vey, whom he married in 1966 and together they had four children. His family joined him for many adventures including: Villanova athletic events, train excursions, hikes, bicycle rides, family trips, and many visits to Mt Gretna and Bethany Beach. Every stranger was a new friend, and Ed touched many lives in his lifetime. He made sure no one went hungry as he loved to share a meal at local restaurants. As a grandfather, he eagerly attended and supported all the many interests of his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Jean Vey and four children: Jennifer Barkey (wife of Gene) of Little Silver, NJ, Douglas Vey (husband of Jennifer) of Baltimore, MD, Rebecca Durrett (wife of Dominic) of Landisville, PA, and Emily Buehler (wife of Ryan), of Scotch Plains, NJ. All together blessed with thirteen grandchildren: Olivia, Tyler and Connor Barkey, Leah, Charles and James Vey, Miles, Ryder, Fin and Rose Durrett, and Reid, Annabelle and Molly Buehler. Ed was preceded in death by his brother, John Joseph Vey, husband of Judith Lynn Vey of Pottstown and their three sons: Joshua, Zachery and Timothy Vey. Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 26th at 11AM in the St. Joan of Arc Church, 359 W. Areba Ave., Hershey. The family will begin receiving guests at 10AM. Interment will take place in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at a later date. Charles F. McElwee passed away peacefully on August 31st, 2022 at home in Hershey, surrounded by his family. Born in Hazleton on June 25, 1954, he was the son of the late Charles F. Tess and Mary (Shields) McElwee. He was a graduate of St. Gabriels and Bishop Hafey High School in Hazleton. He received his B.A., with honors, from the University of Scranton and his J.D. from Duquesne University School of Law. Charles was a partner at Cipriani & Werner in Harrisburg. With over 40 years of litigation experience, he was a talented and widely respected attorney who enjoyed the practice of law. He concentrated his practice in workers compensation and employment matters. He was a mentor, wise counsel, and empathetic confidante to colleagues, clients, and friends. A true intellect, Charles was a man for all seasons. A gifted conversationalist, he had a command of wide-ranging subjects, including politics, sports, history, literature, film, and Irish Catholicism. A bibliophile, he collected books on World War I and Russian history. Everyone who knew him was touched by his wealth of knowledge, kindness, character, and youthful disposition. No one could outmatch his sense of humor. Charles enjoyed culturally enriching trips, reading, following the Philadelphia Phillies, talking politics, and summer nights listening to music on his patio. He also enjoyed walks on Conynghams Main Street and hikes around Hazleton, which he appreciated for all its idiosyncrasies. What he loved most was his family. He shared a fun and loving relationship with his wife, Katie. He adored his three sons and nurtured and embraced their passions and interests. They were his best friends. A member of St. Joan of Arc Church, Hershey, he was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and a retreatant at Loyola Jesuit Center, Morristown, N.J. He was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and Greater Hazleton Historical Society. He is survived by his dearly loved wife of nearly 35 years, Katie (Connors) McElwee; his three adoring sons, Charles F., III, Wayne, PA; Robert Connors, Charleston, S.C.; and Shane Connors, Brooklyn, N.Y.; and his sister Mary Ann McElwee DeCusatis, Strafford. He is also survived by many friends, including his neighbors Dr. Lance and Leslie Hildrew, Hershey, who are like family. We are grateful for their love and support. A visitation will be held at the Hoover Funeral Home, 88 Lucy Ave. in Hershey on Tuesday, September 6, from 5-8PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Joan of Arc Church, 359 W. Areba Ave, Hershey on Wednesday, September 7, at 11AM. There will be no visitation at the church. A private interment will take place in Cavalry Cemetery in Drums. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Charles F. McElwee Fund for Cultural Enrichment at St. Joan of Arc School, Hershey, PA. Hoover Funeral Home of Hershey is handling the arrangements.
Jean A. Gero Moore, 90, of Sebring, Fl, and formerly of Hummelstown, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2022.
Born in Madison, NJ, on August 25, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Louise Granese Gero. Jean retired after 40 years as a service representative for the Public Service Electric & Gas Company in Newark, NJ. Jean was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Sebring Fl. A good-hearted and hard-working woman, Jean’s greatest joy was her family, lifelong friends, and helping those in need. In addition to her parents and brothers, Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gary Conan Moore. Jean will be forever loved and remembered by her devoted family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Jean on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at 11:00 AM in St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Ave, Hershey with The Rev. Fr. Alfred P. Sceski. Interment will be in the Hershey Cemetery. A viewing will be held Wednesday in the church from 10:00 AM until time of the service. Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 W. Mattern, Jr., born on August 20, 1925, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, passed away in his 97th year on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late William and Anna Catherine Mattern. He is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 72 years, and his children, Kathleen (Charles) Engle of Mount Joy, Denise (Steven) Haun of Landisville, Marianne (Thomas) Lawruk of Southport, NC, Carole (Bruce) Andrews of Harrisburg, and William (Bonny) Mattern of Palmyra. He was loving grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Florence (Theodore) Freedman of Lititz. William was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul and Francis, his sisters, Mary, Catherine, and Rosemarie, as well as a great-grandson, Alessio Falci. He graduated from East Lampeter High School and Franklin and Marshall College. He served in the Navy as an aerial photographer during World War II, stationed in Guam and later in Tokyo, Japan. In his professional life, he was an accountant, having worked in various positions within the Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Company, including the Hershey Lumber Company and Hersheypark and Arena. After 30 years with the organization, he retired in 1989. Bill had many talents and interests, including dabbling in darkroom photography, assembling models and dollhouses, constructing model railroads, doing home remodeling projects, woodworking furniture and toys, grilling at family cookouts, playing with his grandchildren, and slipping Milkbone treats to dogs. He was an active member of the Hershey Volunteer Fire Company and served as Treasurer for many years. In retirement, he looked forward to his daily morning coffee at the firehouse with friends. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Tuesday, August 23rd at St. Joan of Arc Church, (where he was a longtime member), 359 W. Areba Ave., Hershey, PA, 17033. The family will begin receiving guests at 10:30AM. Interment will follow in the Hershey Cemetery.
