Raymond Garganes, 73, of Hershey, Pennsylvania, passed away on December 15, 2021 at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
He was born July 14, 1948 in Hershey. He was a son to the late Palmina (Coletti) Garganes and was the best dog owner to his beloved dog Trey. Raymond was a graduate of Lebanon Catholic High School and Millersville University. While at Millersville, he was the captain of the Millersville Football team and was All Conference NAIA All-American and was then drafted by the Chicago Bears. Raymond had also worked at Penn National Race Course and was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Hershey Italian Lodge and VFW Hershey Memorial Post 3502. Mr. Garganes is survived by; daughter, Annmarie Garganes Durnin (husband, Patrick) of Hershey; son, Matthew Garganes of Hershey; and grandchildren, Gianna, Lucia, Emma and Cole Durnin. Growing up in a close-knit all Italian family as an only child, he always considered cousins Janice Gasper Paul, Tommy Gasper and Teddy Gasper as his sister and brothers. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at 11AM in St. Joan of Arc Church, 359 W. Areba Ave., Hershey. The family will visit with guests following the mass at The Hershey Italian Lodge. The family prefers memorial contributions be made to either: JDRF Western and Central PA Chapter jdrf.org or ASPCA.org rather than flowers. Hoover Funeral Homes & Crematory of Hershey is handling the arrangements.
