Ruth M. Tierney, 82, of Hershey, passed away on March 4, 2020 surrounded by her family. She was born March 10, 1937 in Philadelphia, PA, daughter of the late Michael C. Sr. and Ruth M. (Fenning) Tushup. Ruth was a graduate of Lebanon Catholic High School and Chestnut Hill College, Philadelphia. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, where she was the organist for many years and sang in both the Adult and Resurrection Choirs and taught Music at it's school. Ruth was a piano teacher at Lebanon Valley College Community Music Institute and also taught at Tierney Music Studio. She was a concert pianist and had played with the West Shore Symphony and The Wednesday Club of Harrisburg. Other memberships include the Legion of Mary; PA Music Teachers Association; The Wednesday Club of Harrisburg; and the Third Order Franciscan Fraternity of St. Thomas More. She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Francis P. Tierney, Jr. in 2011. Ruth is survived by: daughters; Mary Catherine Tierney and Margi (Fred) Leiss; sons; Francis P. (Tanya) Tierney III; Dr. Michael Tierney; Dr. Matthew (Michelle) Tierney; and Richard (Veronica ) Tierney; brothers, Michael Jr., Steven and Dr. Richard Tushup; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held in the Hoover Funeral Home of Hershey on Saturday, March 7th from 10-11:30AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Ave., Hershey. Interment will follow in the Hershey Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions be made to: St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o St. Joan of Arc, 359 West Areba Ave., Hershey, PA 17033.
