Scott Joseph Newkam, 71, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 28, 2022.
He was born December 16, 1950, in Lancaster, son of the late Charles Robert and Gloria Ann (Caracciolo) Newkam. His parents raised Scott, his sister Charm and brother Keith in a home that instilled a strong work ethic and desire to serve others. Scott attended Valley Forge Military Academy, and was a graduate of Trinity High School, Mount Saint Mary's College, and Amos Tuck School of Dartmouth College. Mr. Newkam retired from Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Company in 2006, where he served as President and CEO. During his 25-year career at Hershey Entertainment & Resorts, Scott was a servant leader, always ensuring the mission of HE&R supported the financial stability, growth and development of Hershey, PA as a destination for all to enjoy. He cared deeply for each employee and that was demonstrated through his genuine interactions. His passion to support the mission of Milton and Catherine Hershey was the foundation of his vision while working at Hershey Entertainment and Resorts. After retirement, Scott continued his professional career, most recently serving on the boards of High Companies, Millers Mutual Group, and Mount Saint Mary's University. His passion for giving back to organizations that were important to him and his family are evident through the boards he served on in past years, including: BB&T Advisory Board; Susquehanna Bancshares, Inc.; Community Banks, Inc.; Dauphin Deposit & Trust Company Advisory Board; Team Pennsylvania (Co-Chairman); Pennsylvania Chamber of Business & Industry; Modern Transit Partnership; Capital Region Economic Development Corporation; AACA Antique Auto Museum; Elegance at Hershey; The Nativity School of Harrisburg; Harrisburg Area YMCA; American Cancer Society Pennsylvania Division; and Central Pennsylvania Multiple Sclerosis Society. As Scott slowed down in his professional life, he focused on the things he valued most; spending time with his family and friends, traveling with his loving wife, hunting with family and friends and his passion for classic cars. Scott is survived by his wife, Susan Joy (Knisley) Newkam; son, Justin Charles Newkam and his wife, Danielle Budash Newkam; daughter, Tara Newkam Valoczki and her husband, Stephen Tyler Valoczki; grandchildren, Tucker Stephen Valoczki, Taylor Anne Valoczki, Nicholas Scott Newkam and Taryn Newkam Valoczki; his sister Charmaine Morrissey, her husband Kevin and son Keith; and his brother Keith, his wife Eli and twins Jennifer and Kyle. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at 3:00 PM in the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Ave. in Hershey. There will be no visitation prior to the mass. The family will host a reception immediately following at the Hershey Country Club Picard Pavilion. The family specifically request no flowers, but rather memorial contributions be made to: Cocoa Packs, P.O. Box 613 , Hershey, PA 17033. Cocoa Packs represents the exact mission and values that Scott lived his life by, providing and serving others. Donations are directly used to provide packs to children filled with a variety of nutritious breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack items as well as additional services that enhance a child's overall well-being.
