After a very rich life of 100 years, Velvia Fischer passed away on Dec. 9, 2016. She was born in Cornwall, Pennsylvania to Giocando and Maria Barbini. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph and siblings: Bill (wife Mary) Barbini, Bert (husband Ron) Kane, Faye Barbini, Vera (husband Kelly) Callaghan, and Lee (husband Dick) Willis.
She had many interests and participated in many organizations, but Girls Scouts was dearest to her heart. Not only was she a leader for many years, but was also on the local Girl Scout Council. She was proud to be involved in the development of Camp Catherine in Hershey. Mrs. Fischer was an amazing woman of many talents and great warmth. Her family feels blessed that she was part of their lives for so long. She will continue to be forever in their hearts. She was survived by four children. She enjoyed speaking Italian with her son James (wife Ruth) Fischer, watching her son Andy (wife Jean Marie) Fischer play bocce, and cruising with her daughters Barbara Cotter and Kathy (husband Ray) Brown. At age 97, she started playing bocce at the Hershey Italian Club with Jean Marie. She was also survived by six grandchildren: Rick (wife Lydia Cotter), Pat (wife Bonnie) Cotter, Beverly (husband Jodi) Griffor, Erica Brown, Drew and Matt Fischer; as well as five great grandchildren: Sadi Cotter, Aiden and Emily Cotter, and Daniel and Jason Griffor. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Wednesday, December 14th at St Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Avenue in Hershey. Per Velvia's request, there will be no visitation or viewing. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Camp Catherine, Derry Township Camping Association, Inc. at 1275 Swatara Road, Hershey, PA 17033.
