William J. Butch, 62, of Dauphin and formerly of Hershey, passed away as the sun set on December 21, 2016 at Harrisburg Hospital with his loved ones surrounding him. Born May 18, 1954 in Hershey, he was the son of the late Joseph P. Butch, Sr. and Effie C. (Croci) Butch.
Bill was a devoted and loving husband to Jennifer E. (Irwin) Butch, father to Ryan N. Butch, Nicholas I. Butch, Elizabeth Butch Ryglicki (husband, Jason Ryglicki), brother to Joseph P. Butch, Jr. (wife, Betty), James L. Butch, dec. (wife, Jean), and Mary J. Butch, uncle, and friend to many. He enjoyed spending time with his puppy, Buffy, and his grand dogs, Wookie and Kona. Bill was a member of the 1972 graduating class at Hershey High School and an alumnus of Penn State University. He retired from the federal government after 37 years of service as a program manager for the Department of Defense at both the Mechanicsburg and New Cumberland Depots. In 2014, Bill returned to his passion of selling real estate. He was a lifelong athlete, enjoying many games of baseball, basketball, football, and countless rounds of golf. He was also an avid biker, hiker, kayaker, and fisherman who was always in search of the big catch. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 27th from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm and also on Wednesday, December 28th from 9:30 am-10:30 am in the Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Route 422 & Lucy Avenue in Hershey. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 28th at 11:00 am in the St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Ave., Hershey. Interment will be private in the Hershey Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions be made to Penn State Pulmonary Research.
