It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our dear sister, aunt, and great aunt, Matilda “Tillie” Zaccagnini Stover. Tillie died peacefully at home of natural causes on April 22, 2023.
Tillie was born on March 23, 1929 in Hershey, to Lena and Philip Zaccagnini. She was the devoted wife of the late Edward E. Stover, Jr. They were residents of Hummelstown for 56 years. Tillie graduated from Hershey High School and St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Lancaster. She worked as a nurse for over 40 years and was the first nurse hired at the Hershey Medical Center. She and her husband provided a home-away-from-home for numerous doctor and nurse interns from the Medical Center. Known for her friendly nature and beautiful smile, Tillie was an active member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and regularly visited sick members of the parish. In addition to her husband and parents, Tillie was preceded in death by her brother, Richard and sister, Filomena Cramer. She is survived by her sister, Vera (Leo) Rudegeair; and brothers, Philip (Sandra) Zaccagnini and Louis (Sandra) Zaccagnini; numerous nieces and nephews and over 50 great nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 28, at 11 AM in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 W. Areba Ave., Hershey. The family will begin receiving guests at 10 AM. She will be interred alongside her husband, Eddie, at the Stoverdale United Methodist Church Cemetery, following the mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Heart of the parish fund, c/o St. Joan of Arc Church.
