Richard “Dick” William Deiling, 86, of Hershey, passed away Monday, May 20, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born to the late William and Mary Monks Deiling on October 21, 1932 in Keokuk, Iowa. Dick attended St. Paul’s Catholic School in Burlington Iowa, class of 1951, where he met the love of his life, Lois. They were married on May 10, 1952 and would spend the next five decades raising their nine children and traveling the world visiting friends and family.
Dick served as a corporal in the United States Army in the 28th and 9th infantry divisions from 1952 until 1954. After leaving the army, he attended South East Iowa Business College, graduating in 1957 as an accountant. He spent his entire career at Univar Corporation, formerly McKesson Chemical and Van Waters & Rogers, retiring as a National Account Sales Manager. He was a long time member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Parish in Hershey. He was actively involved in many ministries in the church, including Eucharistic minister, finance committee, parish council, and Knights of Columbus. Above all Dick was a family man - a beloved son, husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed family celebrations, travel, playing games, picnics, hikes, golf, and spending time with the people he loved. He had an endless curiosity for gadgets, his family heritage, and photography. Everyone sought his advice on the latest in cutting edge technology. Dick is predeceased by his loving wife of 48 years, Lois K. “Robinson” Deiling and is survived by his nine children. Sons: Michael (Sue), Pat (Angie), Tom (Jennifer), Robert (Pam), Brian (Sharon). Daughters: Joan (Walter) Lepore, Lora (Mark) Rogers, Nancy (Robert) Kirk, Linda (Scott) Bidding. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his seventeen grandchildren: Amy (Tony) Mason, Tony Rivera, Tim and Chelly Deiling, Katie and Andy (Allie) Rogers, Kelly and Reilly Kirk, Jackie and Steve Lepore, Carolyn, Lauren, Owen, and Aiden Bidding, Veronica and William Deiling, and Ian Deiling. Dick will forever be remembered for his strong faith in God, love of family and friends, and endless generosity. A recitation of the Rosary with Visitation to follow will be held on Thursday, May 23, 5:30pm-8:00pm at the Hoover Funeral Home in Hershey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 24, 11:00am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Hershey. Interment will follow at the Hershey Cemetery.
